UPDATE June 28, 2019: We are thrilled to announce that we have met the $500 challenge offered last week by a generous donor. Thanks to all of you who helped us achieve this milestone.
It is an exciting time at Stetson University in the School of Music: We are experiencing wonderful growth and participation in our ensembles, as they continue to raise the musical bar in Central Florida, the entire state, and nationally. The saxophone studio is excited to welcome one of it’s biggest incoming Fall classes in ten years. Saxophonists are participating in chamber ensembles, a recently added saxophone ensemble, and major ensembles including symphonic, concert, orchestra and jazz ensemble. In addition, this month, we will be hosting the 15th annual Stetson Saxophone Workshop. This year’s workshop will bring approximately one hundred middle and high school saxophonists to campus as they participate in the week long intensive. With this incredible growth comes a need for a very important and unique instrument. As our musical family grows, our saxophone family must also grow to support the team. The saxophone studio is in need of a Bass Saxophone, the last ingredient in any successful saxophone ensemble.
The Stetson Saxophone Ensemble has become a fixture of the Music School, and recently participated in two separate composer consortiums. The pieces have been composed and are currently in rehearsal phase. Stetson saxophone ensemble would enjoy the opportunity to perform these pieces as premiere performances and in doing the composer's work justice, the ensemble requires the bass saxophone instrument to complete the musical puzzle. The bass saxophone instrument would be utilized in many on campus rehearsals, performances, as well as, any time the University performs out in the community. The acquisition of this instrument would also serve a wonderful purpose in community ensembles and teaching experiences, in which the saxophone studio takes part. It is our hope to obtain this much needed instrument and showcase it as a symbol of the incredibly inspiring music making that is taking place in the Music School at Stetson University.
