As the country continues to battle a global pandemic, our students and their families continue to feel the compressed strain on their health and finances.
Tens of requests for aid pour into Stetson each week as we have started the Fall 2020 semester. Students who need technology to attend class virtually. Students who have experienced illness and loss in their households. Students whose families have exhausted their savings and don’t know how they will make ends meet in the face of this unexpected and prolonged pandemic.
The Hatter community is hurting. One of our students works three jobs to afford her education and now has been laid off. Another student can’t work due to health issues, and so the full burden of school, car and insurance payments falls to his single mom. The financial stress is overwhelming, and our students are trying their hardest to persist and graduate.
When coursework moved online in March, our Hatter community members began asking how they could help. In response, we created the COVID-19 Student Emergency Fund, which provides aid to Stetson students to lessen their unexpected and sometimes devastating financial burdens.
We made the decision to share the news of this fund with our entire Hatter community, in case you are in a position to give. We continue to keep this campaign alive because of the outpouring of support it has generated and because our community is in crisis.
Your gift, in any amount, can make a tremendous difference to students who need help.
Times like these test our resilience and resolve, but such times also bring out the best in people. They remind us of the Hatter spirit that has long rallied and sustained our strong sense of community. Thank you for being a part of this incredible community. Your kindness, generosity and grace are truly appreciated.
